Boy Meets Girl - Fall 2011

Metropolitan Pavilion, NYC- Boy Meets Girl Fall 2011- With a crowd rousing opening performance by singer Natasha Bedingfield, Boy Meets Girl opened with a bang.  The collection of edgy contemporary clothing included lots of burnout velour, layering, and faux fur arm and leg warmers. The inspiration was a girl who is "the center of attention, whether sashaying down a cafe-lined Parisian streetscape or simply catching up with old friends".  The pieces definitely looked complex enough for the fashion forward and at the same time comfortable and fun.

Maisonette 1977 - Fall 2011 Presentation

Maisonette 1977 Fall 2011 Presentation - Jane Ibrahim's collection of young and urbane looks is an inventive combination of luxe materials of varying weights such as crocodile, fur, fur/cashmere blends, chiffon and sateen with interesting details. An easy to wear color palette of black burgundy, ivory, and taupe would suit any complexion.  I love the cutaway variations on the Ponte dress as well as the black chiffon lamé gown.  For those who want some more color, the burgundy tie-dyed rabbit fur vest would be a great addition to any wardrobe.  All in all, an edgy yet wearable collection from Maisonette 1977 and I'm looking forward to seeing more from Jane Ibrahim.

General Idea Fall 2011

General Idea Fall 2011 - Korean Designer Bumsuk Choi's inspiration this season is the letter "M" (think military or mountains).  General Idea teamed up with Italian Outerwear brand NEPA to create lots of camouflage looks with greens, pinks, and yellow.  I liked the layering of knee length shorts paired with leg warmers. Pops of red was seen throughout the show, from candy red boots to the stripe on the leggings,  to the bit of red peeking out at the end of sleeves.  When I went backstage, I noticed the designer had cool red shoes on as well!
